Groundwork Reading Response
ReplyDeleteIn the article “Groundwork”, the author said that if the 18th Century designers are replicating the form of landscape, the 21st century ones are imitating the function of landscape. These two need to merge into built environments. In order to reconcile the nature and civilization, the author is arguing that future designers need to blur distinct lines between the discipline of technology, nature and buildings. To me, one of the interesting things about this article is that in traditional process of making buildings, architects usually tend to take on the role of more aggressive role in built design where landscape architects are understated in approaching the design. Instead of the traditional way, where architects design the building and landscape architects are brought in later to remediate the building and its environment, may be collaborating closely between two professions may as well solve the problem of blurring distinct disciplines of nature, buildings and technology.
