Building melts a car?!

  1. A more extreme example of this problem was the "Sheikh Zayed Road" in Dubai where they built lots of buildings with more that 70% glass facade.
    As a result, after some of these towers were completed the asphalt on the road started melting during hot weather.

  2. This sounds similar to the problem with the Vdara hotel in Las Vegas, which came to light in 2010. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1315978/Las-Vegas-hotel-death-ray-leaves-guests-severe-burns.html) Guests spending time poolside were being sunburned by the reflection of the sun's rays off the curved glass facade of the building.

    This makes me wonder whether there is a way to do solar modeling on highly-glazed buildings (especially of concave designs) prior to construction. Maybe Arup is up for the job?
